Design and Layout:Layout:KMenu

From KDE-HIG_Wiki

It is common practice in KDE to select application names that start with a K. As a consequence, the names are often hard to pronounce or are unintuitive abbreviations of the application's purpose (e.g. KRandRTray). KMenu applications also have two types of descriptions: a catchy two or three word description, and a longer summary which is used in the tooltip.

Guidelines

  • Try to find an application name that is descriptive rather than a cryptic abbreviation.
  • If you use a non-descriptive name, search for a word which is easy to remember and pronounce.
  • If there is no K in the name you selected, simply call the application KDE [Application Name].
  • For the two words description which will be shown in the KMenu, simply use the application's category.
  • The summary should describe in more detail how your applicaton differs from other applications of the same category.

In KDE, there are multiple applications serving the same purpose which makes it hard for the user to decide which one to choose. Support his selection by providing a good summary of your application's strengths and weaknesses.
